Hi, people! And welcome to (thankfully) my last post of the year
(my mug from England brought by one of my students some years ago and a home made muffin!)
As the test is going to be about the comparison between plants and humans...Have you seen this film???
There are some parts I don't agree with... you know the way I overanalise everything scientifically...
Well, getting down to business! I'm posting today some videos on Digestive system for you to start studying (We are just 2 DAYS AWAY from the integrative test!!!)
In the case of digestion, I will just test generalities
VIDEO 1
VIDEO 2
VIDEO 3
VIDEO 5: a great video on a general vision on DIGESTION
And last but not the least, Video 6, a funny video made by two students
Would you like to see the REAL effects of Hydrochloric acid (as the one in your stomach) on a McD's hamburger???
And last but not the least, my power point presentation
Hi, my beloved students!!! How are you doing? Me? I´m correcting like crazy!!!!
I
totally agree with the South Park guy, but as we teachers haven't been
able to invent a method of evaluating students without having to correct
and grade papers, I will have to face the truth and go on correcting
:(
Well, the title of my post is connected to a very famous song. Do you know what the lyrics are about?
Yes!! Food, diets, stereotypes and all the concepts we have been discussing in class lately.
Hi people!!!! I'm leaving you here the questionnaire for the ones who will visit the Fundación Instituto Leloir tonight. I'll be there at 20:00 in case you want to meet me. Take pictures of the historical objects you want to describe (3), of your favourite stand and of the talk you listen to.

Hi, people!!! I hope you're (not your) not relaxing and you're studying for NEXT THURSDAY'S TEST!!! I was watching a film called "Across the Universe" full of songs by the beatles and it ended like this:
As we discussed in our last classes, plants don't need to get their food, they can produce it!!! So, The Beatles were wrong when they say "ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE"!!! This is not correct about plants, all they need is SUNLIGHT, CARBON DIOXIDE and WATER (and of course all our caring love!)
Remember that the process by which plants turn INORGANIC substances into ORGANIC ( means that the composition is CHO) ones is called Photosynthesis
And here you can see my friend Hank again:
I´m also posting my power point presentations (Thank you, Miss Andrea!!!) because it was not clear on your booklet
Hi, my plant creators!!! How did you spend this looong weekend? Hope you have relaxed and started preparing the summaries for the test on plants!!!
Have you seen my cacti in bloom??? (the real and the virtual one) It's impossible to be unhappy when you see this kind of magic...
Well, first of all I wanted to share with you two great links on what we have been discussing in class:

PS: This is an old picture of me with my granduncle for you to see how much I loved plants (up to the point of trying to eat a tree hahaha)
Sorry! I watched the new Robocop yesterday and I'm still excited about a part we'll be watching ...
And now, to the point:
These are the pages of my Super Summary for you to print for MONDAY and FRIDAY!!!! Don't do anything, just print them!! Don't forget!!!
This is a summary for you to see how many things you know already and not to forget everything!!!
See you On Monday!! I'll go on correcting!!!! buuuhhhhhhh!!!!
Here I am again, people,!!! This is the video I told you (and showed people from Fridays) about last class. I hope it can help you understand the relationship between surface area and volume. This is a key concept to understand absorption in every part of our bodies.
So, less talking and more doing!!!
A biologist will show this ratio with an interesting lab experiment
This is the other video we watched in class last Friday.
I'm also including my powerpoint presentation on transport IN and OUTof the cells for you to use as a review TRANSPORT IN CELLS
As you can remember, we discussed that poor Leo Dicaprio died in Titanic because of 1) the loss (=perdida) of heat to the water by a diffusion process and because 2) all the water in his cells froze and the enzymes inside the cells stopped working because of the low temperature...
It was sad, wasn't it? and now, off with the watery romantic eyes and in with the funny stuff.
Shame on you, Rose, you selfish cow!!!
and ... do you remember Rose´s last words in the trailer?
The Mythbusters proved James Cameron WRONG!!!
I have a special 10 for the person that can tell me if Jack could have really gone to the bottom of the ocean or could have floated after dead (with a scientific explanation, of course!!!)
And for the girls only... the moment when heat diffuse from Zac's body into Tess's cold body to save her life...
(I was wrong, he wasn't wearing a t-shirt at all from the beginning of the scene...)
and now let's get a bit more serious...
(just the information we discussed in class!!!)
And another one from BBC
Hope you like them!!!
See you next Thursday/Friday
Hi, people!! How are you? Sorry for not posting the material before but I was down with temperature yesterday (Apparently, my enzymes have been doing their job pretty well and now I'm feeling much better!!! GO ENZYMES!!)
Let's talk a bit about your two practical work assignments and the test...
For Thursday July 7th, each pizza group from Mondays- Thursdays will have to come to the Biology lab on the 2nd floor with the following materials:
4 disposable transparent plastic cups
Masking tape
permanent marker
spoon
a bag of Gummy Bears (different colours) a packet of Halls candies (= pastillas Halls)
Distilled water (= Agua Desmineralizada). I bought it in the car section at Coto
And this is a file for you to print and complete on the results (individually) for the first class after the winter holiday (For the last page BE EXTRA CREATIVE!!!!!)
For Monday July 11th, each pizza group will have to choose up to 10 of the pictures you took during pizza making, print them and on a colour cardboard (cartulina) stick them , telling how the process was (every step) and showing your final pizzas. I will hang the posters on the walls of the lobby, so do your best!
And last but not the least
People from Mondays- Thursdays will have the test on ENZYMES and RESPIRATION on THURSDAY JULY 14th. The group from Fridays will have it on FRIDAY, JULY 15TH.
